To bind the archwire to the brackets, self-ligating braces have a built-in mechanism. This method is also known as self-ligating brackets. This ligation approach differs from typical braces, which use small elastic bands or metal ties to secure the archwire to the brackets. Ligatures are what they are. Self-ligating braces still need to be adjusted from time to time, just like conventional braces. During these adjustments, your orthodontist will review your progress and may alter or replace your archwire. Adjustments can modify the force placed on your teeth, helping them to gradually move into their new positions.
• Shorter Orthodontist Visits.
Individual ligatures in conventional braces must be changed during adjustments. In general, it takes less time to open and close self-ligating brackets during an adjustment.
• Easier to Clean.
Food particles may become trapped by ligatures in and around your brackets. Self-ligating braces may be a bit easier to clean because they don’t have ligatures.
• Less Discomfort.
It’s conceivable that self-ligating braces will cause you less discomfort than conventional braces.

• We will take a mold and photos of the patient’s face before putting the braces on. This allows us to create the dental plan. We need to ensure that the teeth are in good shape. If there is deterioration, we must fill it. In some circumstances, teeth must be removed.
• It takes few hours to complete the brace placement process, including cleaning the teeth. We will clean your teeth first, and then we’ll block your mouth to keep it dry so that your braces can stay in place.
• After that, we apply etching gel to all of the teeth to open the pores so that the adhesive can properly bond to the braces.
• Next, we give each tooth a 10 second exposure to blue light and bonding. Then we apply the glue on the braces and use a blue light to solidify the glue for 40 seconds for each tooth. After all, teeth with braces will be wired. In conventional braces, the rubber holds the wire in place; however, in self-ligating braces, the brace itself holds the wire.
We will remove the wire off and clean your teeth first at the follow-up appointment. During each appointment, we will adjust the wire to be larger than the previous one in order to tighten the wire. For conventional braces, we additionally replace the rubber. In some circumstances, you may require a stopper or elastic. Please keep your braces if they come off and bring them with you to your next appointment, then we will put it back.
